Looking at 17 countries, the Affluent Consumer Research Company interviewed over 3,000 qualified respondents that are among the top 1-5% of their nation’s economy. This included Asia Pacific, North America and Europe. Of the 2.25 million global luxury home buyers over the next 3 years, 8% are considering a home in the continental United States, or 180,000 households interested in owning US luxury property.
Buyers are continuing to have a strong desire to control one’s environment. The most important need is heightened personal security, making up 81% of what international buyers are most looking for. Features and amenities in homes that can handle the family and guests for a longer period is another area of importance.
Some of the most desired home features are great internet connection, quiet spaces for each family member; home gym, and chef’s kitchen. The most desired amenities in the home are security system, smart home technology, and swimming pool. The neighborhood features that are at the top of the list are shopping centers, medical facilities, and restaurants/ nightlife.
While the majority of international luxury home buyers are planning to use their next home as a vacation/secondary home they also prefer single family homes over townhouses, penthouses, or condos. The primary focus of the luxury home buyers is to improve quality of life followed closely by investment potential from owning in a new country. Where do they want to live? The majority of interviewed buyers said urban/city locations and close to the ocean.
